DAY 110 DAY 111 A TWO PARTER!

FRIDAY, April 29, 2011

I stopped in Kmart just before we went to see a movie and checked out the massed produced Berenguer line of dolls.  As I mature in my doll collecting I am finding that Berenguer is the doll I want to be known for.  While in the local Kmart I wanted to explore the doll that I see on sale on the big "E" compared to what they have in the the big "K".  And  to my surprise I found a doll there that costs $20.99 and on the "E" sometimes as high as $44.00.  New to the big "E" I asked my husband who has had an account since '97, what was going on and he explained that some people in the US just don't have Kmart near them.  Not versed in the many places of the United States I kind of shrugged and thought "maybe".  But I was not satisfied.  So the very next day or DAY 111SATURDAY, APRIL 30th, 2011

I should say, I got my answer.  A local woman who has been selling toys at the flea market for seven years explained this to me.  Most of the time it is the people from Europe, England and such that buy her dolls especially if they are Asian and/or Black.  The reason being her European customers have not been able to get such dolls and therefore buy them sometimes in bulk, whenever they can.  SO I gather it must be the American public buying in bulk and then Jacking up the price in hopes to sell to those who have little supply and will pay such an expense. I think there should be an Economic class just for the big "E" because surely the dynamics of what occurs there is a far cry from the Economics class I had (twice, because I failed the first time by one point). Or perhaps more reading will have to occur for better understanding?

DAY 109

"Doll collecting is an activity that’s intended to be enjoyed. Targeting your favorites, remaining within your budget, emphasizing quality, doing research and keeping it social will help you maximize the pleasure while decreasing the problems." -Emma Willis.

http://www.knowledgesocialnetwork.com/5-secrets-to-growing-a-doll-collection/ Check out this site to get more info on how to focus your doll collecting and some positive ways to decide what you want to collect while not getting trapped in a sea of remorse from being a first time doll buyer.  This was a healthy article that is as refreshing as a mint julep on a hot July southern day.  I was glad to have reacquainted myself with this info.   Check it out as I go look for more info on how to expand my square footage in my house to accommodate my dolls.  He he!

DAY107

On Day 106 I played with a real doll as I babysat for about 5 hours.
But today I looked into dolls from Ireland and this is what I found.  http://www.siogdolls.com/

DAY 103

Today I had an idea to go to Kmart. After searching ebay and becoming increasingly puzzled as to why AA dolls were priced so high I remembered seeing the Berenguer dolls there with hard bodies...? That thought alone had prevented me from paying $20 a doll from EBay.  The next logical step was to investigate and confirm if my thoughts were true i.e. "Why in the world would I buy a doll of that price!"  While I was there much to my squealing delight I found this.....Which normally goes for $16.50 to $21.50 on the mighty "E."  However I found two for $9.00 each and I was ever so elated.  Bye bye tax money hello doll world.
Oh and of course I was right, there is no reason why you should buy an AA doll on the "E" when you can get them for $10, right at Kmart.  The reason why you wouldn't know they were from Kmart or Walmart is because they are not listed on their company web-sight for sale which could sucker someone like me to think they were not readily available despite mass production.
So here is the one I absolutely love...She is just darling and likely will not be resold.
Very delightful.
The lesson here folks is this; buy the doll you love and want but don't waste your money shop around and of course don't settle.  If you happened to receive some money back from the IRS and you paid all your bills than by golly you need to treat yourself to a little something.  Dolls or otherwise!

DAY 102

Reassembling my first original cabbage patch.  Oh the excitement! Corwin Daryl came to me in 1982.  He has outlasted all the others I had collected after him.  Including but not limited to Madison Marie, Ellen Christina, Troy Jerome and Hildegarde Ilana.  Not received in that order.  All that remains is Corwin Daryl and one red head my mom has.  So After bringing Corwin home from my mom's my mission is to reassemble him.  I still have is original romper and diaper although age has tarnished and torn them both  Here is what he kind of looks like now. Except he did not have a paci mouth.  Stay tuned for after shots.
